Joshua Smith, professor americano de inglês, as circunstâncias da vida lhe deram a oportunidade de viver em 12 países diferentes na América Central e do Sul desde o ano 2000.
Embora ele tenha vivido e ensinado inglês no Brasil nos últimos 15 anos com muito sucesso, ajudando centenas de alunos particulares (e agora milhares on-line) a obter resultados muito satisfatórios em sua fluência, as coisas nem sempre eram tão fáceis para Joshua morando no exterior.
Houve momentos em que ele foi ridicularizado por adultos e até crianças (humilhante) por causa de sua falta de fluência em espanhol e português. E apesar de morar nos países de língua espanhola nos primeiros 3 anos e freqüentar diferentes escolas de espanhol, não importa o que ele fizesse, ele ainda era um falante básico de espanhol com um baixo nível de vocabulário e fluência.
Levou anos para aprender suas primeiras 1000 palavras de vocabulário.
Conseqüentemente, ele só conseguia se conectar com as pessoas em um nível muito superficial quando comprava alguma coisa. Caso contrário, ninguém tinha tempo de falar com ele. Ele nunca teve uma conversa real com um nativo durante esse período.
E, para ser totalmente honesto, era tudo o que ele realmente queria: apenas para ter uma conversa natural com um nativo, para fazer amigos.
Vamos pular para as notícias boas. Joshua finalmente alcançou o nível de fluência desejado em espanhol e português. E sim, ele conseguiu fazer amigos e até encontrar amor, sua esposa brasileira, além de uma carreira gratificante, ajudando outras pessoas a aprender inglês da maneira mais eficiente e eficaz.
Havia 3 pilares fundamentais que ajudaram Joshua a finalmente obter sucesso com esses idiomas. E embora a ordem na qual ele agora ensina seus alunos (e que estão listados abaixo) seja diferente da maneira como os descobriu e aprendeu, o mais importante é que ele os descobriu e os resultados superiores de que seus alunos aproveitam.
1. O que cognatos são e como explorá-los. Aprendeu com Ruben Moran, o especialista líder mundial no assunto, com mais de 20 anos de pesquisa na área.
2. Técnicas de memorização e as palavras mais comuns. Aprendido com Anthony Metivier PhD. um dos principais especialistas do mundo em sua área respeitada.
3. Conversa espontânea para desenvolver fluência e tempos verbais. Aprendeu com uma viúva na Venezuela com quem viveu enquanto frequentava a escola de espanhol e sua sogra.
Ele tem um grande respeito, é muito grato e é amigo de todas essas pessoas.
Por fim, Joshua acredita firmemente que os melhores professores nos ensinam a ensinar a nós mesmos, o que ele faz em todos os seus cursos.
Em 2020, Joshua voltou a morar nos EUA.

Joshua Smith, American English teacher, life’s circumstances have given him the opportunity to live in 12 different countries in Central and South America since the year 2000.
Although he has lived and taught English in Brazil for the last 15 years very successfully, helping hundreds of private students (and now thousands online) achieve very satisfactory results in their fluency, things weren’t always so easy for Joshua living in foreign countries.
There were times that he was made fun of by adults and even kids (humiliating) because of his lack of fluency in Spanish and Portuguese. And even though he was living in Spanish speaking countries the first 3 years and attending different Spanish schools, no matter what he did, he was still a basic Spanish speaker with a low level of vocabulary and fluency.
It took him years to learn his first 1000 words of vocabulary.
Consequently, he could only connect with people on a very superficial level when he bought something. Otherwise nobody had the time to speak to him. He never had a real conversation with a native during this time.
And to be totally honest, that’s all he really wanted: just to have a natural conversation with a native, to make friends.
Let’s fast forward to the good news. Joshua did eventually achieve his desired level of fluency in Spanish and Portuguese. And yes he was able to make friends and even find love, his Brazilian wife, as well as a rewarding career helping other people learn English the most efficient and effective way.
There were 3 fundamental pillars that helped Joshua finally achieve success with these languages. And although the order in which he now teaches his students (and that are listed below) is different than the way he discovered and learned them, what’s most important is that he discovered them and the superior results his students enjoy.
1. What cognates are and how to exploit them. Learned from Ruben Moran the leading specialist in the world on this subject with more than 20 years of research in the area.
2. Memorization techniques and the most frequently used words. Learned from Anthony Metivier PhD. one of the leading specialists in the world in his respected area.
3. Spontaneous conversation to develop fluency and verb tenses. Learned from a widow in Venezuela whom he lived with while attending Spanish school and his mother-in-law.
He has great respect, he is very thankful, and he is good friends with all of the aforementioned.
Finally, Joshua is a firm believer that the best teachers teach us how to teach ourselves, which he does in all of his courses.
In 2020 Joshua returned to live in the US.
